Prof. Dr. Giashuddin Miah

Dr. Md. Giashuddin Miah born in 1960 at Sadar Upazila of Narsingdi. Prior to his appointment he was the Director (Research) of the University. He was the founder Chairman of the Department of the Agroforestry and Environment and served as the Chairman for the 12 consecutive years until 2008. Besides, he served as Syndicate Member, Director (Student Affairs) and many important committees of the University. He was the general secretary of the Teachers Association for three consecutive years and made significant contribution for the development of the University.
He passed his Bachelor of Science in Agricultural and Master of Science in Agronomy from BAU with first class in both examinations. He did his Ph. D from Philippines in 1993 with distinction. He was JICA fellow for pursuing Post-doctoral Research in the Kyushu University (1985-86), and in the National Institute of Agro-Environmental Sciences (2000) in Japan.
He is an international scientist and presented about 40 country/scientific papers in the international meetings/conferences held in different countries including Australia USA, Canada, French, Sweden, Japan, Kenya, Korea, Bhutan, Cambodia, China, India, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Thailand. Presently he implementing several international donor funded projects in the different ecosystems of Bangladesh. He has also coordinated projects with Australia, Sri Lanka, China, Nepal and India. He is closely involved with several international group/organizations. He is Scientific Planning Group Member of the Asia-Pacific Networks of the Global Climate Change Research (APN) (visit at: www.apn-gcr.org/about-apn/apn-structure/spg-scientific-planning-group) and National Focal Point/Liaison Scientist of World Agroforestry Centre/ICRAF (visit at www.worldagroforestrycentre.org/regions/south_asia)
Dr. Giashuddin supervised 85 MS and 12 Ph. D students. He wrote three books and chapter of several books. He has 73 scientific publications in national and international reputed journals. He is the active member of 25 scientific associations. By virtue of his position, he is serving as member of the almost all policy level committees of the University. Besides his own University, he is serving at the different National Level Policy related Committees, and Committees of the different public Universities.
